Cassette Chucking 1

I'm starting to chuck out my old cassette tapes. I'm such a hoarder of old things. To make this go doubly fast I'm chucking one cassette on here a week and one on my myspace account. The one I'm listening to now is either a recording of my Spillane cd, or my Goddard/Spillane cd. Obviously both cds have the song Spillane. Since I'm chucking the cassette not the cd I will still have the music and will just show the youtube link.

Nick Cave and Grinderman

This song'll rub blisters on you. Nick Cave preaches trim and brimstone like the old Bad Seeds, but Warren Ellis from the Dirty Three, Bad Seed Martyn Casey, and Cramp/Bad Seed Jim Sclavunos form a blunter instrument: they aren't made for precision organ extractions, as the current, amorphous Bad Seed line-up is, though they're handy for hitting you about the head and face. For a song about not getting any, they put out plenty here, starting with a typewriter that turns into a high hat and ending with Cave dotting a noisy musical climax with excitable "whoo"'s and "damn"'s (usually my favorite part of any rock song).

Grinderman - "No Pussy Blues"
Album: "Grinderman" (2007)

My face is finished, my body's gone.
And I can't help but think standin' up here
in all this applause and gazin' down
at all the young and the beautiful.
With their questioning eyes.
That I must above all things love myself.

I saw a girl in the crowd,
I ran over I shouted out,
I asked if I could take her out,
But she said that she didn't want to.

I changed the sheets on my bed,
I combed the hairs across my head,
I sucked in my gut and still she said
That she just didn't want to.

I read her Eliot, read her Yeats,
I tried my best to stay up late,
I fixed the hinges on her gate,
But still she just never wanted to.

I bought her a dozen snow-white doves,
I did her dishes in rubber gloves,
I called her Honeybee, I called her Love,
But she just still didn't want to.
She just never wants to.

I sent her every type of flower,
I played her guitar by the hour,
I patted her revolting little chihuahua,
But still she just didn't want to.

I wrote a song with a hundred lines,
I picked a bunch of dandelions,
I walked her through the trembling pines,
But she just even then didn't want to.
She just never wants to.

I thought I'd try another tack,
I drank a litre of cognac,
I threw her down upon her back,
But she just laughed and said
that she just didn't want to.

I thought I'd have another go,
I called her mah little O,
I felt like Marcel Marceau
must feel when she said
that she just never wanted to.
She just didn't want to.

I got the no pussy blues.

***********************
Hehe, it's good feeling to know that I'm not the only who feels this way. And it does feel good to cheer for the underdog. I've often replayed things in my head trying to figure out what I did wrong. Maybe there was no right or wrong, maybe it was just impossible from the beginning, but still I tried and perservered.
Well, I think it's safe to say I'm a big Nick Cave fan, from his loud stuff to his quiet stuff. I also like Waren Ellis' violin in Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Grinderman, the instrumental stuff of the Naughty Three (think that's the name...) I don't like too much. Not sure why.

Government House

...Okay, first I should say I'll be trying to write two more articles on kink and then do something else.

I've been to Government House twice this year and I just can't get over how much the gift shop changes. They have many different themes to their gift shop as well as having many main stay items. The first time I went this year I took the tour of Government House wow the place has changed so much since my childhood. It was all decked out for Christmas when I went last time and the ballroom was part of the tour. Now there is another new edition built for the Queen when she came here in 2004. This time I went to hear a string quartet play in the ballroom. It was really strange to see the band walk off the stage after almost all the songs. I felt a little out of place amongst the elder generation, still I had a good time.
For those that are unfamiliar with my writing style I never mention if I go alone or with people so I always make myself appear a little pathetic by appear to be going. I do this in case anyone actually reads these things and get jealous that I never invited them. This has happened to other people and I don''t need the headache sorry.

Jello by Ashley Simpstone

ASHLEE SIMPSTONE LYRICS
"Jello"
I'm talkin' bout jello
All my girls stand in a circle and clap your hands this is for you
Ups and downs highs and lows no matter what you see me through there's always more jello
My boyfriend he don't answer on the telephone
I don't even know where the hell he goes
But all my girls we're in a circle and nobody's gonna break through when we eat jello
Jello, Jello, Jello
Yum, yum
I wanna eat some
Jello, Jello, Jello
Jello, Jello, Jello,
Whipped cream makes it fun
Jello, Jello, Jello
Gotta have some
Im talkin' bout
Jello, Jello, Jello
Jello, jello jello
Satisfies me more than any fellow
I'm talkin' bout jello, say you'll be my girls for life
Girls for life
Hold up your spoons, and then dig in
it's tasty and light and keeps you thin
Read the directions from the box,
Don't need to be smart or a sexy fox
Don't need any man in this room
Hello, I got jello
My boyfriend he'll be calling me now anytime
I need all my girls to keep him off my mind
So hold up our spoons and then begin
When we yell out "Bill Cosby" we start to spin
Jello, jello, jello
Jello, jello, jello
Did you hear me say?
Jello jello jello
Jello jello jello
Don't need no smurfin' fellow
I'm talkin' bout jello
I'm talkin' bout jello
Jello is an energy, jello is a mystery
Jello is meant to be true
Jello is a part of me, jello is the heart of me
Jello is the best thing we do
Bill Cosby and the Jello Puddin' Pops
They got the stuff that makes me hop
I'm doin a jig now cause I'm lip-synching
Jello jello, jello,

My Favorite Christmas Song

Zombina And The Skeletones - Transylvanian Christmas Lyrics

Christmas is coming
I'm getting fat
Cruising through town in a black cadillac

I remember when i gave you your first bat
its the time to bring that feeling back

I wanna Transylvanian christmas
like the ones we had back home
I wanna ride on a cute, cool sleigh
beneath the mistletoe
Because I'm homesick for the old country
and it never seems to snow around here
I wanna Transylvanian christmas
this year.

So Santa Claus is coming round tonight
when he gets to my house he's gonna get a fright

It's not that I'm a sick sadistic creep
it;s just that I'm so excited i cant sleep

I wanna Transylvanian christmas
like the ones we had back home
I wanna ride on a cute, cool sleigh
beneath the mistletoe
Because I'm homesick for the old country
and it never seems to snow around here
I wanna Transylvanian christmas
this year.

Halloween Albums

Well, this year I have two albums that I submit as Halloween albums Original Sin by Pandora's Box, a Jim Steinman orchestration with female vocalists. Yup, it came out in 1989 and no I won't buy it unless to edit out all the talking at the beginning of the songs. A few listens of it would be good, but after awhile i'm sure I'd tire of it. I really like the orchestra stuff and yes there are a few Meat Loaf songs. And my other Halloween album would be Bat Out Of Hell 3, haven't heard it yet, but I'm sure it'll be great. Hmm, guess I can't play Bat Out Of Hell 3, cause it only comes out on Oct. 31.

Here's a song called Seize The Night by Meat Loaf off of Bat Out Of Hell 3, a nice Hallowed Evening song.

(Steinman)

Come with me and bless the night
Let the darkness be your salvation
Curse the day - escape the light
Break the chain of imagination

Come with me and seize the night
Now's the time for some inspiration
Leave the day and loose the light
No taboos only new sensations...

In the shadows of the city
A hero's waiting for the call
And all the angels are waking up
And all the devils start to fall

In the shadows of the city
They're dying for a thrill
They're going out over the edge
They're moving in for the kill

You gotta curse the day: it's nothing but a merciless light
So open up your arms and then you get down on your knees
You suck in all the darkness and you're ready now to seize
Seize the night
Seize the night

Dies irae, Kyrie! Libera me, Domine!
Dies irae, Kyrie! Requiem da, Domine!
Dies irae, Kyrie! Libera me, Domine!
Dies irae, Kyrie! Requiem da, Domine! [etc.]

Dies irae, Kyrie! Sanctus, Sanctus exultate!

Bless the night, before it has the chance to pass
Seize the night, you do what it takes to make it last
Bless the night, before it has the chance to pass
Seize the night, you do what it takes to make it last

Bless the night, before it has the chance to pass
Seize the night, you do what it takes to make it last...

Let your dreams out of their cages
Every passion and desire
Let your visions be outrageous
Set your fantasies on fire

Everything will be permitted
There'll be nothing left to fear
I got the magic in your body
Your inhibitions disappear

You gotta curse the day: it's nothing but a merciless light
So open up your arms and then you get down on your knees
You suck in all the darkness and you're ready now to seize
Seize the night
Seize the night

Dies irae, Kyrie! Libera me, Domine!
Dies irae, Kyrie! Requiem da, Domine!
Dies irae, Kyrie! Libera me, Domine!
Dies irae, Kyrie! Requiem da, Domine! [etc.]

Seize the night, you do what it takes to make it last
Bless the night, memories collide to change the past
Seize the night, you do what it takes to make it last

Carpe Noctem...

Bless the night, before it has the chance to pass
Seize the night, you do what it takes to make it last...

Um, without even hearing the song you can pretty much get a sense of the genre "Wagnerian" the guy who created the opera The Ring, the 16 hour opera? Completely over the top raw energy that if channelled properly could power a city for a day, hehe. Amazing stuff.

Lily Allen, Knock 'Em Out Lyrics

Knock 'Em Out
Alright so this is a song about anyone, it could be anyone.
You're just doing your own thing and some one comes out the blue,
They're like,
"Alright"
He's saying,
"Yeah can I take your digits?"
And you're like, "no not in a million years, you're nasty
please leave me alone."

Cut to the pub on a lads night out,
Man at the bar cos it was his shout,
Clocks this bird and she looks ok,
Caught him looking and she walks his way,
"alright darlin, you gonna buy us a drink then?"
"err no, but I was thinking of buying one for your friend..."

She's got no taste hand on his waste, tries to pull away but her lips on his face,
"if you insist I'll have a white wine spritzer"
"sorry love, but you ain't a pretty picture."

Chorus
Can't knock em out, can't walk away,
Try desperately to think of the politest way to say,
Just get out my face, just leave me alone,
And no you cant have me number,
"why?"
Because I've lost my phone.

Oh yeah, actually yeah I'm pregnant, having a baby in like 6 months so no, and yeah, yeah...

"I recognise this guy..."
That's what she's thinking,
As he comes over her heart starts sinking,
She's like,
"oh here we go.."
It's a routine check that she already knows, she's thinking they're all the same.

"yeah you alright baby? You look alright still, yeah what's your name?"
She looks in her bag, takes out a fag, tries to get away from the guy on a blag, can't find a light,
"use mine"
"you see the thing is I really don't have the time."

Chorus

Go away now, let me go,
Are you stupid? Or just a little slow?
Go away now I've made myself clear,
Nah it's not gonna happen,
Not in a a million years,

Chorus x2

nah I've gotta go cos my house is on fire,
I've got herpes, err no I've got syphilis...

Tom Waits: Tickets The Next Generation

This is good news for anyone tired of bands selling out in 2 minutes, knowing full well a good third of those tickets will end up on eBay, craigslist, or elsewhere. This is bad news for big Tom Waits fans who shelled out bigger for the sold out tour.

Tickets for Tom Waits' first US tour in 7 years sold out immediately. No surprise. Also of little surprise was that many tickets were posted for sale through online ticket scalpers with a bit of a mark up. This pissed Tom off.

According to the BBC and NME, now all valid tickets must be picked up from the venue on the night of the show. Only the original ticket purchaser may claim the tickets with valid personal picture identification and the credit card used to purchase the tickets from an authorized seller ie. Ticketmaster.

No word on what happens to the guy and the girl who missed the announcement and got their tickets late for some serious coin from some dude on eBay. Hopefully there was a return policy.

I'm hoping this starts a trend and we can start going to shows at the posted price again. But can someone please do something about the price of shows these days? Why are we paying a hundred bucks to sit backrow at Bjork or Radiohead?
http://suicidegirls.com/news/music/17354/

*************************************8
It's about bloody time this sort of thing started happening. Or not allowing scalpers on online auctions. I'd like to know if there is a way to sell your tickets, if you can't make it to a performance and others would like to enjoy it.

From the question of why prices are so high it is because people are willing to pay the price regarless of pyrotechnics or not. It's true that in Elizabethan times in front of the first row the poor were allowed in for free. They couldn't actually see anything more than the feet, but they could still hear the story. If prices went lower more people would be able to go see a show. Maybe...I never liked the sound system in my cities small arena, and paying to go to Saskatoon to drive there, get a room, buy a ticket...It's a lot of money and the band better have pyro and better be on the top of their game. A $100 ticket event can easily cost $300 at the end of the day. I just can't afford that :(

Lily Allen

http://www.lilyallenmusic.com/ Now I usually hate most women's songs all that love love love waah, waah, waah. But I like this stuff. Kinda like Fantastic Plastic with a little hip hop. She doesn't feel sorry for herself, and the music is uplifting. Damn!! You mean I heard her sing the song Smile on the radio already?? Wow! Maybe I do have a little bit of taste in music? Just saw her video for this song. Uh, wow! Wasn't expecting such uh, vindictive creativity. Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_jjuCfdksQ&mode=related&search=lily%20allen And you can watch two out of three vids of Yunyu on www.youtube.com unfortunately, not my favorite, but I'm waiting.

Nick Cave The Road Thus Far

Love Letter

Mutiny In Heaven

Well, there are of course two dvd videos to buy so obviously there's more than these two, but if you check them out you'll know that Nick Cave has come a long way and done a lot of very interesting things. I really liked the one acceptance speech where he doesn't say thank you to anyone. He just says hello to people like friends, family and his band. It's so humbling that way. It's like he isn't honoured by the award but honoured by being able to say hello to so many at one time from around the world. Probably the best award acceptance has got to be Father Ted's when he pointed out the people in the audience who didn't support him along the way. That was a long list. Funny though. I even found a Father Ted song. http://youtube.com/watch?v=pkvNRT6DIW0&mode=related&search=father%20ted My Lovely Horse

Um, BOB scares me

Hehe, getting someone to think my site is, uuhh, intelligent when my name is I don't know how to blog is well...SCARY!!

Oh well, it happens. So, yeah, I was just checking out Cat Power, she was the first person I heard from Australia and wanted to buy an album of, from, whatever. She has a sound, voice like no one else I've heard kind of haunting, scary, and also soothing. After watching this particular video it really seems strange to think that Saddam is on trial for killing a few Iraqui's after seeing the body count left by the Americans. Having George Bush at the end saying something like the mantra of Americans is, "Do what you want," and it being changed to, "let's roll." Seriously scares the hell outta me!! This is the guy whose trying to save Iraq by killing civilians? This is the guy whose basically just helping recruit more terrorists? What is it G Bay is totally illegal in every way according to international law and a total waste of money? How many laws has George Bush broken or rewritten since he's taken office? And finally when is George Bush going to be put on trial for creating a monopoly of fear upon the world that's destroying all life and progress on this planet?

Feeling Blah

Noise, by Moev. I have no idea if this type of music is now being called emo. I'm just in this kind of mood today. Just heard Epicurus, or something had created the rules on how to be happy, that another guy D Something wrote the words on a wall in red in the middle of the market place. One of the first things to do is to be with friends as much as possible. My friends all leave me. The second one is to not be drawn in to the commercial world. I'm too poor to be drawn in. The third is do something with your hands and mind, something you love that you can be proud of. Something simple like a gift for a friend, or a sandwich like that. The fourth is something like give yourself some space forget the anxieties of the world think about a goal you wish to achieve and think about how far you've come to achieve it. Be proud of how far you've come. The fifth is listen to other people's philosophies about how to live life, and learn and expand your mind to the possibilities of life. The rest of the wall was destroyed and now illegible. I'm looking for a path, philosophy, religion, something to follow...Maybe I'll learn more about this pursuing of happiness...Just...So tired...So lonely....

I hear the teenage laughter
Of a cruel little girl
And a conscience
That I can't control
A million voices
Trying to be heard
I can't decipher
A single word
My heart beats like
A lonely voice
My head is full of noise
I hear the scuffle
And I feel every punch
I hear I hear
Altogether too much
My heart beats like
A lonely voice
My head is full of noise

Just found a review that might help you get an idea as to what this band sounds like..
It is beautiful, moody, melodic, dark and electronic with great big beats carrying it along. If you were (or are still) into any of the bands like Skinny Puppy, Front 242, NIN, electronic music, etc. then you MUST own this!!! Though they did achieve pretty decent underground success, Moev was one of those bands that I felt was underexposed, underrated and underplayed. I'll be making up for lost time!!!

Satan Gains Power

Modern metal, in contrast with its glammier ’80s Sunset Strip incarnation, has followed the lead of Metallica and Megadeth into ever-darker regions of protest and penance. If it still identifies with the Adversary, that’s only because fundamentalists the world over have succeeded in selling the image of a God who really sucks. Over the past decade, as pious citizens have shuddered at metal’s devil horns and tattoos, Korn, Marilyn Manson and Dio have extended a claw to the kids who were being abused, rejected and driven onto the streets. Lamb of God have scientifically demolished the patriotic oaferies of militarism. Cattle Decapitation have bellowed about the trashing of the Earth.

Just Listening to The Herd

Their first single to attract Triple J airplay was the humorous "Scallops" in 2001, a song about ordering food at a take-away shop. Later tracks included "77%" which featured the line "77% of Aussies are racist", referring to the number of Australians announced in a survey that agreed with the Australian federal government's response to the MV Tampa incident, and "Burn Down the Parliament", which was to be interpreted metaphorically, but unfortunately was released the same week as the January 2003 Canberra bushfires.

The Herd weave colloquial tales of ghostly country towns and world-weary urban dwellers, celebrating raucous highs and reflecting on the more sombre moments. Darker commentary on social upheaval converge with a sincere respect for war veterans and disillusioned peacekeepers. The same group that cried, "Wake up this country needs a shake-up" is more than capable of delivering subtle, multi-layered observations. The musical platform shacks up in perfect synchronicity with the vocals; slide guitars sunbaking under heavy bass backdrops; snares cracking like burnt eucalypt branches; accordions shaken and stirred by the thump of kick drums. Gatecrashing The Herd party are colourful and unconventional samples: bellowing trumpets, percussion and cello, juxtaposed with double-timed, multi-syllabic, multi-lingual dialects.

Billy Bragg Vol. 1

Okay before I get to my little quote I've always loved Billy Bragg's music and message even now that he's supposedly lessening his message of unions. I remember reading about one benefit concert he did with Jerry Dalmer, not Jeffery Dalmer ya sick folks. Jerry Dalmer of Two Tone Records and the band The Specials...No, I won't name all the versions of the band here. After the benefit concert Jerry went to Billy, uh, let's never do another of these again. They remained good friends but there were a lot of problems with the concert. You see the Clash were also there. Imagine the first act wearing business suits with sunglasses and then ripped jeans and punk hairstyles. Yeah, a bad idea.  Did I read the quote correctly, that this is simply Vol 1 and it's going to have four albums worth of stuff on it, a DVD and more?? And that the guy is actually making yet another album? Aaah, here be me quote. Ooops got it wrong Vol. 1 is a 7 cd and 2 dvd set. Now, that's amazing!

For an artist who's had a career spanning more than 25 years and been called a spokesperson for his generation, Billy Bragg hasn't spent that much time in the studio. But Yep Roc Records has collected his first four studio albums and a wealth of bonus material on the seven-CD, two-DVD set, Volume 1. The albums, with bonus discs, are also available separately.

Bragg first emerged on the scene with 1983's Life's A Riot With Spy Vs. Spy debut. Armed with just a cheap electric guitar and a strong British accent, Bragg picked up the torch from American troubadours Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Phil Ochs in writing songs that alternated between those with definite socio-political messages and others conveying sensitive portrayals of love and relationships. While never becoming a superstar, he's been recognized around the world as a vital songwriter and a valuable activist for a variety of worthwhile causes.

Momus is back! with songs about monks, murder, his penis, and applacian mountain girls! If you're already a Momus fan, there's a lot here to like, including a clever and almost-moving love song between a palm pilot and his human, and a brilliant song about his penis that is a funny and memorable as "Coming in a Girl's Mouth" (from Little Red Songbook) should have been and just wasn't.
